Enter Bunny

Bunny looked around. **Wow... Talk about a Ghost Town** she says to herself. **Where is everyone?**

In the Schoolhouse

Etcetera entered the schoolhouse and looked around. It wasn't very big compared to the school she had gone to in the city, but of course it wouldn't be with the town being so small. She walked up to the desk in the front of the room and sat down in the chair trying to get a feel for what a teacher was supposed to be like. She gazed across the empty seats where her students would be sitting tomorrow and sighed. She wondered if she would be able to do this. She was kind of shy and everyone back home was surprised when she decided to become a teacher. As she thought about everyone she had left behind her mind began to drift off.

Munkustrap knocked on the door before entering the schoolhouse. "I thought I heard someone in here," he said, taking off his hat. "I'm Munkustrap, the new sheriff in town. I've just been wandering around--making myself known."

Etcetera jumped a little at the sound of the voice. "Hi, I'm Etcetera the schoolteacher. I'm kinda new myself. My first day is tomorrow."

"I'm sorry," Munkustrap apologized. "I didn't mean to scare you. Have you been out much to explore? I've just been wandering around a bit. You know, meeting people and such."

"I have met a few of the townspeople but not many. I thought I would check out here first and get ready for my first day. I did meet one of my students earlier. It's going to be strange teaching kids the same age as I am." she said.

"Well, if you need any assistance, just let me know," Munkus said with a smile. He turned to head out the door then stopped. "I'm going over to the store for a few things. Do you need anything while I'm there?"

Etcetera smiled as she shook her head, "No, but do you mind if I head over there with you? I would like to familiarize myself with the town a bit more."

Munkus returned the smile. "Of course not," he said and waited for her to get her things together.

Etcetera gathered up her basket and cloak and headed out the door. "Thank you," she said with a smile.

Munkustrap followed Etcetera out into the street. "I actually haven't been in town all that long, so I really haven't had the opportunity to meet many people," he said, trying his best at small-talk, which he wasn't very good at.

Etcetera nodded, "I know how you feel, I only arrived this morning. I've met a few people but not many."

Reluctant Tom

Electra grinned and pulled the reluctant Pouncival in front of Jemima. "Well, here you go, Miss Jemima."

Pouncival smiled nervously at all the cats gathered around. "Howdy. Uh..." he paused and rubbed the back of his neck with his free paw. "Electra, you could let go now." He shook his arm for emphasis.

Electra whispered in his ear, "Don't go runnin' like a scared jack-rabbit or I'll have to truss you up like a calf." She let him go and smiled at the others. "I'll be off now. See y'all later!" She jumped onto her waiting horse and waved as she rode away.

Jemima looked up at Pouncival and smiled just a bit. "Hi," she said softly. She moved over a bit. "Wanna sit?"

Victoria bumped Electra and whispered. "Maybe we should pardon ourselves so they can be alone?" She smiled slightly.

Kit smiled. "Hello. I saw you a while ago."said Kit. She then looked at the two. She grabbed her dad and Misto and whispered "Lets give them some time come on." The three began to walk and Misto took hold of Victoria's hand. He whispered, "Hey, lets all go for a walk." The four began to walk.

Victoria smiled, though a little bit startled. "I'd love to" she said following Misto.

Pouncival gave everyone leaving a nervous smile. "Bye, everyone." He sat next to Jemima.

Electra waved farewell at the group of departing cats from atop her horse.

Jemima watched her friends go, then turned to Pouncival shyly. "I... I hope I didn't make you uncomfortable with what I told you," she said softly. "I really, really like you, Pouncival."

Pouncival shook his head. "No, I'm no good for you Miss Jemima. I've got no lands to call my own. I know for a fact your Pa would not approve of a relationship between us. You deserve better. It just wouldn't work..." He grabbed and held her paw gently. "No matter how much we like each other," he said softly.

Jemima began to cry again. "Pouncival, you're the best I could ever get. I want you. No matter what my pa says. He doesn't control me. He doesn't have to know about us. Just take me away from this life. I hate it. Please!" She gripped his paw tightly. "Please."

Pouncival looked horrified and hugged Jemima to himself tightly. "Oh, Miss Jemima, don't cry," he pleaded. He glanced up at some strangers coming up and drew Jemima to her feet with him. "Let's go somewhere and talk. I'll take you away, though it'll make me an outlaw to do it."

Jemima let him pull her up and lead her away. "Oh, Pouncival, I don't want you to break the law for me. But, I just want to be free. Take me with you, and, if anyone finds us, I'll tell them it was my fault. Please."

Pouncival sighed and nodded, knowing that he'd take the blame no matter what. "I won't break the law. It's just that yer Pa will think that I'm catnapping you if he finds out." His mind whirled trying to think of what to do. "Let's go pack a few things from my place, then head out."
